Gravity

If we’re willing to bleed,
fight, die for one another
we owe it to them, live
really live, while we can

sixth draft finished
hand-written notes
in margins, in purple
filled binder, in hopes

a kid threw a desk today
I pointed out he was mad
he made another kid sad
because they were fat and slow
asked him why and he blamed
everyone else, even the victim
so he flipped a table instead
of asking himself why am I

We all change, time sees to that
We lose parts along the way
In war those we love the most
Don’t always come home again.

A draft and a first week down
Wheels simmer on hot ground
Wedding rings came in the mail
Can this be real, can this be now
I’d like to keep this life around

‘Move past it’ is a choice I think
A daily conversation to have with
Oneself, and on bad days, out loud
Move past the daily little triggers
And reminders of past mistakes
Try to notice them less because
It isn’t your fault if it happens again
You’ll just have to let her go
But that hurt? That hurt would
Take hourly conversations with
Yourself in order to move past it
